2524 (Oakington) Squadron Crest - a brief history

Did you know that our original Squadron crest incorporated the Seagull from the crest of Five Flying Training School (5 FTS)? 5 FTS was the major unit based at RAF Oakington when our squadron was being formed.

The Crest of No. 5 FTS with its motto, showing the Seagull and the "Dysgu I Eheddeg" (Teaching to Fly).

In 2007 our Squadron’s crest was redesigned using the 7 squadron RAF motto "Per diem, per noctem" (By day and by night) and the centre from 627 Squadron - both of these squadrons were based at Oakington during the second world war.

The result is the Crest we use today!
